Over the years using a flannel board with younger children has developed into a number of ways to build a child's vocabulary. Here are a few ideas that will help you use flannel board teaching to its potential. Before your Bible story begins, display the felt pieces on your flannel board for children to touch and observe. This gives them a little time to preview the Bible characters and get familiar with the cute drawings. Introducing new vocabulary can be done as well. During your Bible lesson, layout your felt images on your flannel board in story sequence. Once your class is familiar with the storyline, you may have them pick & hold a felt character. Then after being queued by you, they go to the flannel board to place it where they think it should go. Be sure to point out new vocabulary words and review their meanings.
