The Comet Goldfish, also commonly known as a common or pond comet, are one of the most well known varieties of goldfish. They have orange or red metallic scales with a long, slender body and a straight tail. There are two common tail variations. Common goldfish have short, blunt tails, while comets have a distinct "V" shape to their tail allowing their tails to be very long and flowing. They range in size from 1 inch to 12 inches. While most common goldfish are orange or red in color, they can also be solid black or white, or have black and white patterns on an orange body. The most popular color patter variation is the sarasa common, which has red and white markings. Comet goldfish do well in aquariums, tanks and ponds and can be mixed with other straight tailed goldfish. Goldfish growth rates are based on food, space, water quality and surrounding environment. Goldfish are omnivores and will eat all types of dried and live food, but basic fish flakes or pellet food will provide the proper diet.
